An Advent Tradition

Today we gathered to celebrate Advent through our special tradition of Las Posadas. During this celebration, students recreated the journey of Mary and Joseph, moving from classroom to classroom as they searched for a place to stay. At each stop, classes welcomed them with an Advent promise,  a simple commitment to kindness, patience, generosity, or peace during this sacred season.

The procession helped students experience the story in a meaningful and active way, reminding us all of the importance of hospitality and caring for others. It was beautiful to see how thoughtfully each class participated and how our school came together in prayer and community.

We look forward to continuing this tradition again next week as we prepare our hearts for Christmas. Thank you to our staff and students for helping keep this Advent tradition strong and full of joy.

Reading Buddies Take on A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue!

This week, our Grade 1B and Grade 3B Reading Buddies came together for a special social-emotional learning activity. Students listened to the social story A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue by Julia Cook. It is a fun and thoughtful book that helps children learn the difference between tattling and telling.

After the read-aloud, students created their own “tattle tongues.” On the back of each one, students wrote a personal promise about how they will try their best to avoid catching a “case of the tattle tongue.”

When we learn and grow together it helps make our school a safe and fun place to be where everyone is welcome.

Today we celebrated Canadian School Library Day! This is a day to recognize how important libraries are in our schools and communities. Over the past few weeks, students shared what the library means to them by writing or drawing on  hearts.

The hearts are now displayed in our library, and they show just how much this space means to our students. Some wrote about how the library is their favourite place to read and discover new worlds, while others drew pictures of books and friends.

It’s wonderful to see how many students see the library as a place of imagination, belonging, and learning. Thank you to everyone who took part in helping us celebrate our library and the joy of reading together!

Grade 4A, explored the theme of diversity in living things, focusing on what makes insects similar and how their unique adaptations help them survive.

Students had the exciting opportunity to look at real insect specimens up close using microscopes. Seeing tiny details like wings, legs, and antennae magnified sparked lots of curiosity and questions. It was a hands-on way to connect science learning across grades!

A big thank you to Mr. Gallant and his Grade 11 Biology students for teaching and inspiring us, we loved learning alongside you!

Grade 4A students wrapped up their Science unit on Energy with a hands-on class full of discovery and fun! As part of their learning about how energy transforms from one form to another, students rotated through a variety of interactive stations designed to bring these concepts to life.
Picture
At one station, glow sticks lit up the room as students explored chemical energy transforming into light energy. At another, hand-cranked flashlights demonstrated how mechanical energy (turning the crank) could be converted into electrical and light energy, and at another how gravitational energy turns into kinetic. Using thermometers, students also investigated how energy can transfer as heat.

Through these exciting activities, students saw firsthand how energy moves and changes form all around us. It was a fantastic way to end the unit, leaving everyone curious and energized for more scientific exploration!
